PML alternative for stocktakes
You are looking at PML Stock Take Inventory Count and want to compare it. Here is what its App Store listing says, what we do differently, and who should pick which. We make Countwell, so we say so up front.
What PML is
PML (by Pimsical) has been listed since November 2023 and shows a rating of 4.8 from 94 reviews. Its plans are $10.79 (1 location), $21.79 (3 locations) and $37.79 (15 locations) a month, with a free trial. It counts through your Shopify POS devices, several at once, with no POS Pro subscription needed, and no maximum scan limit. It also handles purchase orders, store-to-store transfers, cycle counts and min/max reorder limits.
What Countwell does differently
PML is a mature app with a long review history and it covers purchasing as well as counts. Countwell is narrower:
- Countwell has every location on every plan; PML limits locations by plan (1, 3 or 15).
- Countwell works from the camera in the Shopify mobile app, a scanner, or typing, so you do not need POS hardware.
- Countwell keeps a reason with every line that is off and writes a CSV with the value of the difference at cost.
- Countwell has a free plan (100 counted items applied a month); PML starts at $10.79.
Countwell is submitted to the Shopify App Store and waiting for review, so you cannot install it today. Every other option on this page you can.
Who should pick which
- You run Shopify POS in several shops and want purchase orders and transfers in the same app: PML.
- You count by phone, have more than one location and want to pay little: Countwell, once it is in the App Store.
- One count a year and a small catalogue: the free stocktake template.
Shopify's own Stock counts are free with your plan: staff record quantities by barcode scan or by typing, and you review before stock changes. Countwell is not in the Shopify App Store yet
